S14 Speakers

Amplifier Matching

The S14 works with any amplifier rated 25–80 watts per channel into 4 ohms — vintage receiver, modern streaming amp, tube, solid-state, or Class D. Most amplifiers handle this easily. If you're unsure, check that your amp is stable into a 4-ohm load.

Placement

The S14 was engineered with wall proximity in mind. For bookshelf or stand use, 6–24 inches from the rear wall is the sweet spot — this placement gives a natural bass lift that complements how the speaker is tuned. Experiment with toe-in to taste.

For desktop or nearfield use, position speakers 3–4 feet apart aimed toward your listening position, tweeters at ear height, and 6–12 inches from the rear wall.

A few things to avoid: corner placement causes bass buildup, hollow furniture can color the sound, and the rear port needs a few inches of breathing room.

Speaker positioning affects your sound more than any other variable. Move things around until it feels right.

Break-In

Your S14s will open up over the first 20–40 hours of listening as the woofer surrounds settle in. Play them regularly at moderate volume and they'll find their character on their own.

Connecting Your Speakers

Always power your amplifier off before connecting speakers.

Connect red (+) to red and black (−) to black at both the speaker and amplifier ends. If you're using Sieg speaker wire, match the same color cord to red on both ends, and the other to black.

The binding posts accept banana plugs, spades, or bare wire up to 12 AWG. Hand-tighten — no need to overtorque.

Wire gauge by run length:

  • Under 30 ft — 18 AWG (Sieg braided wire is ideal here)
  • 30–50 ft — 16 AWG
  • Over 50 ft — 14 AWG

Grille Removal

The brass grilles are held by guides pressed into rubber receptacles at each corner. To remove, pull gently from the edges, working around until all four corners release. To reattach, align the guides and press each corner in until seated.

Care & Maintenance

Cabinet — Wipe with a dry microfiber cloth. For stubborn marks, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. No furniture polish or chemical cleaners.

Brass Grilles — Raw brass will develop a natural patina over time. That's intentional. If you prefer to maintain the original finish, use brass polish sparingly. Fingerprints are best removed with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, dried immediately.

Drivers — Don't touch the woofer cone or tweeter dome. Dust can be removed with a soft brush or low-power vacuum held at a distance.

Speaker Wire & Banana Plugs

Connect the same color cord to the red terminal on both the speaker and the amplifier. Connect the other color to black.

If your amp doesn't accept banana plugs, unscrew the collars and use a screwdriver to loosen the set screws. You can then insert the bare wire directly into the amp's binding posts as needed.

Our wire comes with both straight and 90° plugs — use whichever fits your setup.
