Where can I put my speakers?

Most of the records we love were made by people in cramped studios, and most of the listening that matters happens in living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms with furniture in them.  Don't worry about perfection — just put your speakers where you want to listen to music.  

What actually matters

Where the speakers sit matters more than almost anything else. A few things we’ve learned in the workshop and tell every S14 owner:

• Walls are fine. The S14 was designed with wall proximity in mind — a bookshelf or a stand six inches to two feet from the wall gives a natural lift to the low end that the speaker is tuned to expect. You don’t need to float your speakers in the middle of the room.
• Be careful placing in corners. Bass can pile up, but you be the judge.
• Solid footing. Hollow furniture can color the sound. A real shelf, a stand, a credenza with some mass to it — all good.
• On a desk? Also good. Three or four feet apart, aimed at you, tweeters near ear height.

Move things around until it feels right.
