Record Weight

$85

Our 878 gram solid brass record weight, with a pad hand-cut from Moore & Giles leather hides, will never get heavier. But its gravitas increases with use.

It comes with a solid walnut holder, so it has a place on the shelf when the record’s over.

Hand-assembled in Crozet, Virginia. Ships from our workshop.

What does a record weight do?

A record weight presses your record flat and holds it there. Even records that look fine often have subtle warps — enough to lift slightly off the platter during playback, causing the stylus to work harder and track less consistently. The weight eliminates that and also adds rotational mass to the platter, smoothing out speed variation and tightening pitch stability.

At 878 grams, this is a substantial weight. It’s well suited to direct-drive decks and belt-drive tables with a proper platter and bearing. On entry-level tables with lightweight plastic platters, check what the manufacturer says about weights before adding one. If you’re unsure about your table, write us.
